When Your Big Three Don’t Get Along: The Inner Committee of You

Sagittarius, Taurus, and Capricorn Walk Into a Bar (a.k.a. My Nervous System)

You’ve heard it before: “I’m a Leo,” “I’m such a Virgo”—usually said with half a smile and a splash of irony. What most people are really referencing is their Sun sign, and sure, it matters. It’s your core identity, the center of your astrological chart. But it’s not the full story. Not even close.

If you’ve ever read your horoscope and thought, this isn’t me at all, you’re not wrong—you’re just incomplete. Because in astrology, there’s not just one sign that defines you. There are three: your Sun, Moon, and Rising—a.k.a. the Big Three.

Together, they form a kind of inner committee. Some days, they collaborate beautifully. Other days? It’s like hosting a group project between a poet, a spreadsheet-obsessed CEO, and a wandering philosopher.

First, Find Your Big Three

All you need is your birth date, time, and location. Drop that info into astro.com, AstroSeek, or apps like TimePassages or Co–Star. The result? A chart that reveals your Sun (identity), Moon (emotions), and Rising (approach to life).

Before we go on, a quick note: your personality doesn’t stop at your Big Three. There’s also your Mercury, Venus, Mars, and an entire cosmic cast of characters influencing your inner landscape. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves—that’s a story for another post.

The Sun: The CEO of Soul

Your Sun sign is your energetic signature. It’s the glow you carry, the fuel that drives your sense of purpose. Mine? Sagittarius. Which means: give me an open sky, a good book, and the option to ghost every single plan I’ve made if inspiration strikes.

She’s the seeker, the spark. She wants to live out of a suitcase and talk to strangers about God and poetry and political philosophy. She absolutely cannot be bothered with a fixed routine or a detailed itinerary.

The Moon: The Inner Sanctuary

Now let’s talk about the part of you that cries during commercials. Your Moon sign holds the blueprint of your emotional body—what you need to feel safe, how you self-soothe, what you really crave after a long day.

Mine? Taurus. A candle-lit bath, chamomile tea, the slow pleasure of a perfectly made bed. She’s not here for the chaos. She’s here for stability, luxury, and keeping the fridge stocked.

“The Moon’s position is where our soul feels most at home—it’s the emotional default setting we must learn to understand, not bypass.”
Jan Spiller, Astrology for the Soul

So while my Sagittarius Sun is out here buying plane tickets and disappearing into the woods, my Taurus Moon is saying, “Sure, but did you pack snacks? And how far is the nearest Whole Foods?”

The Rising: The Public Face (and Path Forward)

Your Rising sign is how you move through the world. It’s the vibe you give off, the costume you wear when you walk onstage—and the direction your soul is secretly headed.

Mine? Capricorn. She’s not here to play. She’s got spreadsheets, goals, and a ten-year plan. She shows up early, stays late, and takes her emotional temperature by checking her to-do list.

“Your Rising sign is the lens through which your Sun and Moon express themselves. It’s the filter on the camera of your life.”
Chani Nicholas

So while Sagittarius wants to run free and Taurus wants to stay cozy, Capricorn is the one reminding me there’s rent to pay and a brand to build.

When Your Signs Don’t Get Along

If you’ve ever felt like three different people depending on the day, you’re not crazy—you’re cosmically layered.

You might:

  • Want to travel the world (Sun)… but have anxiety about sleeping anywhere but your own bed (Moon).
  • Dream of changing careers (Sun)… but keep showing up at the same job because it looks good on paper (Rising).
  • Love deeply and messily (Moon)… but come across cold and composed in new relationships (Rising).

This isn’t dysfunction—it’s depth.

Here’s What Your Big Three Might Be Saying

Big ThreeCore TensionLesson
Aries Sun, Cancer Moon, Libra RisingAssertive vs Sensitive vs HarmonizerBalance boldness with emotional intuition
Leo Sun, Virgo Moon, Scorpio RisingExpressive vs Perfectionist vs IntenseLet your light shine while honoring depth
Gemini Sun, Pisces Moon, Capricorn RisingCurious vs Dreamy vs DisciplinedAlign inspiration with grounded action
Sagittarius Sun, Taurus Moon, Capricorn RisingFree-spirited vs Comfort-seeking vs ResponsibleTrust both freedom and structure

When you feel the inner tug-of-war? That’s your committee hashing it out.

So What Do You Do With All That?

You don’t pick sides. You negotiate. The goal isn’t harmony 24/7—it’s integration.

Try this:

  • Give each voice a seat at the table. What does your Moon need today? What does your Sun want to explore? What would make your Rising feel proud?
  • Design your life with all three in mind. (For me, that looks like flexible travel, a cozy home base, and a color-coded Notion dashboard.)
  • Know which one leads when. Sometimes the Moon takes the wheel. Sometimes Rising gets the mic. Let them trade roles.

Final Thought: You’re Not a Contradiction—You’re a Constellation

You are not a walking paradox. You are a beautifully designed system of inner voices, each pulling you toward wholeness.

So if you’ve ever said “I don’t make sense,” let this be your permission slip: you don’t have to.

You’re not one sign. You’re three stories, three songs, three archetypes in motion. And when they learn to listen to each other, you start to feel like… you.

Want to Go Deeper?

If this sparked something in you—maybe it’s time to explore your own Big Three more deeply. I offer Cosmic Compass Readings where we map the intersections of your Sun, Moon, and Rising and explore how to live in alignment with your soul’s rhythm.

Because once you understand your inner committee… you can finally lead it with grace.
